Session Description

In this inteactive, hands-on workshop, we’ll explore a writer’s options as s/he writes about sensitive topics such as childhood trauma. What tone, what dialogue, what voice, what word choice? How can you use metaphors, sentence structure, word choice to achieve your intent?

Dr. Beverly J. Armento, Professor Emerita, Georgia State University, author of Seeing Eye Girl: A Memoir of Madness, Resilience, and Hope brings a fifty-year career as an experienced educator and workshop leader to the table. Kirkus Reviews comments on Seeing Eye Girl: “Sublime writing brightens an unforgettable, harrowing personal account.” Dr. Armento will bring some of that “Sublime writing” to bear on the Sensitive Topics Workshop in which participants will aim to write so that readers will want to turn the next page as they read difficult material.
