A long time ago, when legends were still believed, one legend was discussed most amongst all. This legend had the kids clutching their blankets up to their chins; it had teens triple-checking their doors and phones. Most of all, it had parents with a little hint of worry, a possible existence of this legend.
Now what is this tale, you ask? How in the world could it have scared the peeps out of the people?
The legend, often retold for scary purposes, goes like so:
Once, a small girl, about 8 or 9, was strolling about the town. The clouds were dark gray, echoing menacing glares across the bare trees. Occasional gales shook branches, making houses creak. The girl happily skipped down a path, going around houses, climbing up trees, and simply being a mischievous little girl.
Before she knew it, she was lost. It was dark, and she didn’t know where she was. There were no houses until she heard a sudden BOOM, and a house erupted behind her.
She turned around and gasped. The house was huge, about 5 stories tall and completely black with few windows.
This girl, you see, was not exactly the brave type, but the one who did not think anything could go wrong. Whether she noticed the especially black grass, the snarling jack-o-lanterns, or the rustling leaves upon her arrival, we shall never know.
She went up the path anyway and stopped at the door. It was a black door, with a boar-head silver knocker. Red was plastered over the top half. Lightning flashed suddenly and the girl desperately wanted to go inside. She gripped the knocker and banged on the door. BANG. BANG. BANG.
The door creaked open on its own revealing a dimly lit path with red carpet. The girl gulped and walked inside until she bumped into something. Something green with brown coveralls. Before she could scream, the thing grabbed her by her neck and she became unconscious.
She woke up to visions of ghosts swirling around her, chanting.
Oh, the girl of her doom has arrived.
Oh, our master shall not be deprived.
Oh, the blood that shall water the stones!
Oh, the little scared children in homes!
Bloodthirsty we are for moooore…
One day we will haunt every, single sooouuul…
That was the last thing she remembered, before a ghost appeared above her, a sharp blade in hand. Ghosts zipped in and out of her, chanting the same tune.
The girl wanted to scream, and instead felt piercing pain in her brain before…darkness.
Legend has it the girl became a ghost and led the others into an insane army of the dead. They haunt the townspeople and steal skeletons from graves.
Most of all, they leave children with covers to their chins, they leave teens with sweat on their foreheads.
And finally, parents, with the solid fear the girl has reincarnated into one of the living, symbolizing the ultimate doom of the world.
