“On the Tall Mountains”

October 29, 2021/in Uncategorized /by Melissa Swindell

4th Grade, 3rd Place

by Gabrielle Gunter,

Putnam County Elementary

Lily was a little girl who loved exploring, but one day that all changed.

This is the story of Lily, Janet, and the tall mountains. One day Lily was at home and was bored but she wanted to go outside. She asked her mom and her mom said yes so, she went outside and went to her friend’s house to bring Janet with her. They were walking sometimes running through the woods when they came across a bunch of tall mountains “Lets come here tonight and camp!” Lily exclaimed “If our moms say yes.” Janet said in an out-of-breath way. They keep exploring till the get to the end of the Mountains “Isn’t that weird?” Janet said “What?” Lily asked, Janet started to speak “How all those mountains were in one place.” Lily sighed, it was getting dark out so they both decided they would head home, they ate dinner and they both asked their moms and they said yes. So, they packed tiny bags and sleeping bags and headed to the mountains. Lily got there but she was waiting there for about an hour but still no sign of Janet, so she went looking in the woods and something tall and black rushed in front of her. She got a little anxious, but she kept looking then she heard cries and screams. It sounded like Janet, so she rushed toward the sound and saw Janet standing in front of a deer covered in flies “What happened Janet?!” asked Lily, “So-something killed this poor de-deer.” Janet stuttered while wiping her tears” “It is ok” Lily told her while hugging her “Let’s go home I guess” said Lily so they walked home and went to sleep they’re moms were surprised to see them in bed in the morning because they thought they were still on the mountains. When they woke up, they were both still a little traumatized. Lilys mom showed Lily a newspaper saying “Graveyard is turning into huge mountains? Is this god’s plan or the grave keeper himself?” Lily was shocked. That is where they were going to sleep! She ran over to Janets house and told her; Janet almost passed out. “Thats why there was a whole bunch of random stones!” Lily said. They both were surprised when Lily said “and the black figure? It could be…the Grave Keeper…” They never went back or told their mothers. It was their little secret…
